Ogun Police Arrest Eight Over Unlawful Assembly, Assault on Officers in Sango-Ota

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspects over alleged breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and serious assault on police officers in parts of Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

The arrests followed a disturbance that occurred on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota. According to the police, a group operating under the name “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba” allegedly barricaded major roads, set bonfires, disrupted vehicular movement, and attacked officers deployed to maintain law and order.

Police operatives were said to have swiftly mobilised to the scene after receiving distress reports, dispersed the group, and arrested the suspects. Those apprehended were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).

Exhibits recovered during the operation included a Toyota Dyna vehicle allegedly used to convey the suspects, two broadcast speakers, a carton containing flags, shirts bearing inscriptions linked to the group’s agitation, and banners displaying their messages and manifesto.

The Police Command stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, has reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state. He warned that the police would not tolerate any act capable of breaching public peace and stressed that assaults on police officers would attract decisive action.

The police also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and to promptly report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line and other designated emergency numbers.
