Aroyewun Leads Stakeholders on Inspection of Federal Projects in Igbogbo/Baiyeku

The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, on Wednesday led community stakeholders on an inspection tour of ongoing and newly approved federal projects facilitated by the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson.

The inspection, held on January 14, 2026, was aimed at providing residents with firsthand assessment of the progress, quality, and impact of the projects across communities within the LCDA.

Speaking during the tour, Chairman Aroyewun noted that the exercise was designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and community confidence in governance, stressing that projects facilitated by Hon. Benson are not merely approvals on paper but visible interventions actively improving lives at the grassroots.

Across several wards, the delegation inspected ongoing road construction projects that are transforming previously flood-prone and inaccessible streets. With improved drainage systems and durable pavements, the roads are enhancing connectivity for traders, students, commuters, and emergency responders, while also stimulating economic activities within the affected communities.

A major highlight of the tour was the inspection of the 13-kilometre Offin/Oreta Road, described as the largest ongoing road project in IBLCDA. The road links more than 50 neighbouring communities and serves as a vital corridor connecting homes to markets, farms to buyers, and residents to essential services. Discussions at the site focused on drainage integrity, flood control, and long-term sustainability of the project.

The inspection team also visited Salvation Army Primary School, Agunfoye, where a six-classroom block facilitated by Hon. Benson is under construction. The project is expected to significantly improve the learning environment for pupils and reflects ongoing investment in educational infrastructure within the council area.

Addressing residents, Chairman Aroyewun commended Hon. Babajimi Benson for his commitment to grassroots development across IBLCDA and the wider Ikorodu Division. He stated that the scale and visibility of the ongoing projects demonstrate effective representation and purposeful leadership. The chairman further disclosed that preparations are underway for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Igbogbo/Baiyeku, which is expected to commence soon.

He also used the occasion to encourage eligible residents to participate in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration exercise, highlighting Hon. Benson’s facilitation of National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment machines to ease access to registration for residents.

The tour attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including development strategist and Mayor Deen Sanwo-Ola; Director-General of iCare Foundation; traditional leaders such as the Odofin of Igbogbo, High Chief Taju Onasanya, and the Baale of Oreta, Chief Ramoni Yusuf; as well as political leaders including Alhaji Olawale Abdullahi.

Members of the Community Development Council (CDC), led by Chairman Hon. Yaya Ogunsowo, alongside zone leaders and other executives, actively engaged with council officials throughout the exercise, reflecting strong collaboration between government and community structures.

The council’s legislative leadership also participated fully in the inspection, including the Vice Chairman, Barr. Ade Ayeni; Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Basirat Banjoko; Deputy Leader, Hon. Hakeem Solawon; Majority Leader, Hon. Habib Anifowose; Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Yusuf Bello; Chief Whip, Hon. Saidat Adeoba; and other councillors and officials.

Youth participation was notably strong, with representatives from the Igbogbo Youth Forum, Igbogbo Student Union, Ibeshe youths, and other youth organizations taking part in the tour, underscoring the younger generation’s involvement in community development and governance oversight.

Security personnel from the Local Joint Task Force, as well as representatives of construction firms handling the projects, including JRB Construction Company Ltd. and Laralek Contractors, were also present.

Projects inspected during the tour include Ilemire Road in Ibeshe, Olu-Odo Road linking Lasori-Abuja, Igbo-Agbowa and Lajo communities, Idi-Oro Road connecting Abule Oshorun to Ilemire, the Offin/Oreta Road, and newly approved roads at Morekete and Selewu. The inspection also covered the ongoing classroom construction at Salvation Army Primary School and the provision of NIN enrollment machines across the LCDA.

As the tour concluded, residents expressed appreciation to both Hon. Babajimi Benson and the IBLCDA administration for the visible improvements in road infrastructure, education, and healthcare planning. Many residents described the developments as evidence of responsive leadership and improved governance at the local, state, and federal levels.
