Lagos Govt Engages Stakeholders on Proposed Obalende Bus Park Redevelopment

The Lagos State Government has held a stakeholders’ engagement meeting on the proposed redevelopment of the Obalende Bus Park, aimed at transforming the facility into a modern and well-organised transport hub.

The project, which will be executed through a public-private partnership with MTN Nigeria, is expected to significantly improve transport operations within the Obalende axis.

At the meeting, representatives of MTN Nigeria disclosed that the redevelopment is projected to be completed within 21 weeks from the commencement date. The project will be delivered in three major phases comprising the Main Bus Park, Bus Park 2, and supporting facilities such as a loading bay and park garden.

Speaking during the engagement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, stressed the importance of maximising the available space to accommodate all commercial buses operating in the area. He noted that the inclusion of adequate and functional infrastructure would be critical to the successful implementation and long-term sustainability of the project.

Giwa also proposed the establishment of a small technical committee to address key operational and design issues, while emphasising the need for continuous engagement with transport unions throughout the project’s lifespan.

Also present at the meeting were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu; the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; the Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Bola Oladunjoye; the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadagesin; the General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Adetoun Popoola; representatives of MTN Nigeria; and other key stakeholders.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to inclusive planning and sustainable transport solutions that enhance mobility and urban order across the state.
