Oyo/Osun Customs Seize Contraband Worth ₦2.7bn, Exceed 2025 Revenue Target by ₦13.1bn

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded major operational successes, including the seizure of contraband goods valued at ₦2.7 billion and the surpassing of its 2025 revenue target by over ₦13 billion.

The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this on Thursday during his maiden press briefing for 2026.

Adewole said that within one month of assuming office, the Command intercepted prohibited and uncustomed goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦2,701,762,558.00 through intelligence-driven operations, sustained patrols and strategic enforcement at various flashpoints across Oyo and Osun states.

Items seized include 2,234 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at ₦385.2 million; 1,112 pieces of used tyres worth ₦256.3 million; 562 kegs of premium motor spirit estimated at ₦33.6 million; 124 bales of used clothes valued at ₦782.4 million; and 42 sacks of used shoes worth ₦424.5 million.

Other seized items include cannabis sativa, codeine syrup, tramadol, foreign spaghetti, used compressors and assorted pharmaceutical products. The Command also intercepted several vehicles, including Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Jeep, Chevrolet and Mercedes-Benz GLE, alongside means of conveyance such as a Volvo truck, Volkswagen bus and three J5 vehicles.

In the area of revenue generation, Adewole revealed that the Command generated ₦8.37 billion in December 2025 alone. He added that the Oyo/Osun Area Command exceeded its 2025 annual revenue target of ₦86.29 billion by ₦13.13 billion, representing a 15.22 per cent increase.

According to him, the achievement was a result of improved compliance, effective monitoring and the dedication of officers to trade facilitation and lawful revenue collection.

Adewole reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against smuggling and other activities capable of undermining the nation’s economy, warning smugglers and other unpatriotic elements to desist from illegal acts.

He noted that the Command would continue to strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders to safeguard national economic security.

The Acting Area Controller also commended the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde, for his support, and appreciated the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his leadership. He equally acknowledged the media for its role in public enlightenment and information dissemination.
