PSC Promotes AIG Adegboye to DIG, Elevates Two CPs to AIG, Advances 26,119 Inspectors
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II).
The approvals were given at the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, under the chairmanship of DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni.
At the senior level, the Commission ratified the promotion of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Adegboye was until his elevation the AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
In the same exercise, Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police after successfully undergoing written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
In a major boost to career progression within the Nigeria Police Force, the PSC also approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II). The promotion followed their performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Profiles of Promoted Officers
DIG Funsho Adegboye, mni, has had a distinguished policing career spanning operations, training and administration. He has served as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in Homicide (FCID), the Force Intelligence Department and Edo State Command. He also has extensive international exposure, having served in United Nations missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki was, until his promotion, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Imo State Police Command.
AIG Dansabo Idi previously served as the Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His career includes postings as DPO in several divisions in Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe and Kosoboso, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force in Ikorodu, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1, Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, at the Force Headquarters.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, merit and professionalism in police promotions.
He urged the officers to view their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and renewed dedication to national security.
The chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, chaired by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), and other members of the Commission for their diligence during the examination and interview processes.
The PSC reiterated its resolve to strengthen human resource management in the Nigeria Police Force in line with global best practices, with the aim of building a professional, efficient and service-oriented police institution.
