LASG Mourns LASTMA Officer, Two Others Killed in Dangote Truck Crash at Badagry Roundabout

The Lagos State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a traffic officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority  (LASTMA) and two other citizens in a fatal road accident involving a Dangote Group truck at Badagry Roundabout inward Seme.

A devastating road crash on Monday, February 23, 2026, claimed the lives of a LASTMA officer and two civilians, throwing the Badagry community into mourning and once again raising concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance standards among haulage operators.

According to preliminary reports, a fully loaded SHACMAN truck owned by the allegedly suffered a catastrophic brake failure while travelling at high speed toward Seme.

The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which rammed into the LASTMA officer who was on official traffic regulation duty at the roundabout, as well as a pedestrian. The out-of-control truck continued for about 200 metres, fatally striking another individual before eventually coming to a stop.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash but was later apprehended by other LASTMA personnel and handed over to officers of the at the Badagry Division.

Emergency responders, including officials of LASTMA, the (FRSC), the (NSCDC), and concerned residents, swiftly mobilised to the scene. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Badagry, where they were confirmed dead.

Reacting to the tragic development, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as heartbreaking and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“This is a painful and tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this incredibly difficult time,” he said.

He paid tribute to the fallen officer, describing him as a dedicated public servant who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

Bakare-Oki stressed the urgent need for haulage operators and logistics companies to prioritise strict mechanical maintenance of their vehicles, particularly braking systems.

“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of mechanical failure. We urge all transport companies to conduct rigorous and regular safety checks to prevent avoidable accidents on our roads,” he added.

The accident vehicle has been impounded and transferred to the Badagry Police Division for comprehensive forensic investigation.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening traffic monitoring frameworks, enhancing emergency response systems and intensifying public enlightenment campaigns to improve safety across major corridors in the state.
