PSC Promotes AIG Adegoke Fayoade to Deputy Inspector General of Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

The decision was taken on Friday, February 20, 2026, following what the Commission described as his exceptional performance in both the written examination and oral interview conducted as part of the promotion process.

In a press statement e-signed by the Commission’s spokesperson, Torty Njoku Kalu, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), the PSC confirmed that AIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha (mni, psc, MNIM) has now been elevated to the rank of DIG.

DIG Fayoade, who joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992, brings over 30 years of distinguished service to his new role. Until his promotion, he served as the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, where he was widely commended for strengthening community policing and leading strategic security operations.

During his tenure, he spearheaded the dismantling of the notorious “Billionaires” Kidnapping Gang in Lagos, a feat that earned him national recognition. His career has also been decorated with several international and national honours, including the 2024 Crime Buster of the Year for West and Central Africa, multiple Best Police Station in Africa awards (Nairobi, Kenya), Best Divisional Police Officer in West Africa (Johannesburg and Dubai), as well as the International Security Award from ISSO-SEC Switzerland and HSIIS United Kingdom.

The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, congratulated the newly promoted DIG and urged him to see his elevation as a call to greater responsibility. He expressed confidence that Fayoade’s expertise in technology-driven policing and stakeholder collaboration would further strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Police Service Commission is the statutory oversight body for the Nigeria Police Force, mandated to appoint, promote and exercise disciplinary control over all police officers, except the Inspector-General of Police. The Commission is also responsible for formulating policies and guidelines aimed at ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Force.
