Lagos APC Says PDP Heading Toward Political Oblivion Amid Deepening Internal Crisis

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is steadily sliding into political irrelevance in Nigeria, citing what it described as persistent leadership crises, ideological confusion, and deep internal divisions within the opposition party.

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over what it described as the continued decline of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the opposition party is gradually losing relevance in Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Lagos APC, through its spokesperson Seye Oladejo, said the PDP, once regarded as a dominant national platform, now appears to be grappling with a series of internal crises that have weakened its standing across the country.

Oladejo said the party’s persistent leadership disputes, lack of ideological clarity, and recurring internal conflicts have reduced what was once described as Africa’s largest political party to what he termed “a shadow of its former self.”

According to him, many Nigerians still recall the PDP’s years in power with concern, noting that the period was marked by governance challenges, institutional decline, and economic distortions that the country is still striving to overcome.

He argued that rather than learning from its past experiences, the PDP has continued to struggle with internal discord, opportunism, and what he described as the absence of a unifying national vision.

“The crisis currently unfolding within the PDP is not accidental. It reflects years of political arrogance, poor leadership culture, and a lack of respect for institutional discipline,” Oladejo said.

He added that the current developments within the party suggest a gradual implosion that could further diminish its relevance in Nigeria’s democratic space if not urgently addressed.

Speaking on the situation in Lagos, the APC spokesman said the PDP’s influence in the state has continued to decline as residents increasingly support the governance approach of the ruling party.

He maintained that the Lagos APC remains focused on policies aimed at economic growth, infrastructure development, and improved living standards for residents.

While stressing that a healthy democracy requires a responsible opposition, Oladejo said it was unfortunate that the PDP has not effectively positioned itself to play that role.

“The PDP must take time to reflect on the state of its internal affairs. Nigerian democracy deserves a stronger and more organized opposition,” he said.

Oladejo reaffirmed that the APC in Lagos would continue to prioritize governance, institutional strengthening, and policies designed to improve the quality of life for residents of the state.
