Christians across Nigeria and around the world have been called to reflect on the virtues of humility, sacrifice, and service as they mark Palm Sunday, signaling the commencement of Holy Week — the most sacred period in the Christian calendar.

Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where He was welcomed with palm branches and chants of “Hosanna,” symbolizing reverence and adoration. The occasion highlights a profound message of a King who chose peace over power, riding into the city on a donkey rather than a warhorse.

In a message to the faithful, residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Christians beyond were encouraged to approach the Holy Week with deep reverence and unwavering faith. The statement emphasized that true greatness lies not in authority or might, but in humility and selfless service — virtues exemplified by Jesus Christ.

“As we hold our palm branches high, let us also hold firmly to the enduring truth that greatness is rooted in sacrifice and humility. Christ, who came to serve rather than to be served, remains the ultimate model for all,” the message read.

The call concluded with an exhortation to believers to journey through the Holy Week with spiritual reflection and renewed commitment to faith, echoing the biblical declaration in Matthew 21:9: “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
