Unified Muslim Staff Association Hosts 7th Annual Ramadan Lecture in Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA

The Unified Local Government Muslim Staff Association, Lagos State, Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA chapter, has held its 7th Annual Ramadan Lecture, with Islamic leaders and public office holders urging Muslims to reflect the values of the Qur’an in their thoughts, speech and actions beyond the holy month.

The well-attended event, held in Igbogbo, drew traditional rulers, clerics, political leaders and community stakeholders. The theme of the lecture was “A Muslim in Thought, Speech and Action.”

Among dignitaries present were the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Abdulsemih Orimadegun Kasali, Fadilat Sheikh Lukman Abdurazak, who delivered the lecture, and the Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Mayor Ameen Apanishile. The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA, Omo’oba Olalekan Aroyewun, also addressed journalists at the programme.

Speaking on the essence of Ramadan, Chairman Aroyewun emphasised that Islam teaches adherence to the teachings of the Qur’an in all aspects of life. He noted that the discipline, piety and self-restraint observed during Ramadan should not end with the fasting period.

“Whatever we practise during Ramadan should reflect in our attitude after Ramadan. Our conduct must positively impact society,” he said, stressing that Muslims must be ambassadors of peace, integrity and compassion in their communities.

In his lecture, Fadilat Sheikh Lukman Abdurazak charged Muslims to cultivate the fear of God in all their dealings. He urged the faithful to be kind to others, fulfil their obligations to God, uphold family values and avoid actions that could tarnish their faith.

“Every Muslim must have the fear of God. Be good to people, give God His due, and be responsible to your family and followers,” he said.

The cleric encouraged generosity, noting that charity attracts divine blessings and increases wealth. According to him, Nigerians should not misuse opportunities, as the country is blessed with abundant resources.

“There is money in Nigeria, but we must not misuse opportunities. If you want your wealth to increase, give to others,” he stated, while calling on politicians to design and implement empowerment programmes that would uplift the less privileged.

Referencing the administration of former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, the guest speaker highlighted the importance of impactful leadership and social welfare initiatives. He further advised that those who desire long life and good health should support the needy and actively participate in family and community development efforts.

The lecture concluded with prayers for peace, unity and sustainable development in Lagos State and Nigeria at large, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to living out Islamic principles in thought, speech and action.
