Ogun Police Arrest Suspect Over Killing of Motorcyclist in Igbesa
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspect, Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, detectives from the Igbesa Division apprehended the suspect following the incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, identified as Sunday Ogbu, 36, before attacking him in an attempt to dispossess him of the bike. The assault led to a struggle that left the victim critically injured.
A witness at the scene reportedly raised the alarm, prompting a swift response from police operatives who rescued the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the motorcycle and a knife allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Ogun State.
